London Cancer Prevention Conference features EMFs

23/11/2005

At a major conference on cancer prevention at the Central Hall Westminster last week (17 November) organised by CANCERActive, presentations by the eight or so platform speakers varied significantly, with the establishment represented by Karol Sikora (Prof of Cancer Medicine, Imperial College), Tony Howell (Prof of Preventive Oncology, Christie Hospital, Univ of Manchester)and Mike Richards (National Cancer Director)and the heterodox position set out by Roger Coghill (CRL), Prof Vyvyan Howard (Ulster Univ), and Dr Rosy Daniel (Health Creation) and Dr Rob Verkerk (Alliance for Natural Health, with Chris Woollams acting as chairman.

The former three did not stay to hear the later talks, nor to take part in the platform discussion which closed the event under the aegis of Julie MacBride MP. Other speakers included Dr Damien Downing, Prof Angus Dalgleish (Prof of Oncology at St Georges), and Dr Ian Gibson MP, (Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer) and Giles Watson of WWF.

There was a clear dichotomy obvious between the establishment position that cancer is here to stay, despite all efforts, and is set to double in the next 20 years (- nice for the cancer industry! -)and the others arguing that there is an urgent need for better public information and there are many effective cancer treatments which are being ignored by mainstream medicine. A video of Coghill's talk, which featured electropollution, will shortly be available on this website, and an audio tape of the proceedings will be available from CANCER Active (www.canceractive.com)
