Schools survey reveal blatant disregard for Govt backed Stewart committee advice

10/12/2005

A new BBC survey reveals that out of 26,000 British schools only 24 percent had been consulted by local authorities about the siting of cellphone masts in their immediate vicinity. In 2000 the Govt-funded Stewart committee had warned that radiation from masts could pose a health problem, particularly to children, who should be discourasged from cellphone use.,br>,br> This advice appears to have gone unheeded by parents: a million UK children under ten have unregulated cellphones (Daily Mail survey, April 2005), despite three epidemiological studies reporting long-term elevated risk of brain tumours (especially acoustic neuroma) associated with cellphone use. No further UK Govt research investigation or initiative is planned, but a multi-billion license fee has been extracted for licencing 3G opersators.
